The human metapneumovirus (HMPV) has been discovered in India and is now being considered in China. The virus has been found in two Bengaluru, Karnataka, youngsters. The ages of the two children are three and eight months, respectively. During routine health examinations, they were diagnosed with HMPV.
While one of the youngsters is still undergoing therapy, the other has healed and been released home. None of their relatives have visited any nations where HMPV is prevalent.
HMPV symptoms, such as coughing, fever, stuffy nose, and difficulty breathing, are similar to those of a cold or flu.
In extreme situations, it may result in pneumonia or bronchitis, two lung illnesses. Usually, three to six days after infection, symptoms start to show. According to the CDC, this virus is more prone to infecting small infants, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
India is monitoring news from China, where a large number of people are becoming ill with diseases like HMPV. According to a meeting of India’s Joint Monitoring Group (JMG), the chilly winter weather in China is to blame for the proliferation of these diseases.
Additionally, they said that there is now no reason for concern in India. The Indian Health Ministry is prepared to manage any surge in cases and has begun testing for viruses like HMPV in various regions for safety.
