Raipur: After the arrest of Suresh Chandrakar, the prime accused in the murder of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar, his entire horoscope was revealed. Suresh used to work as a cook for Rs. 1500. Slowly he made contacts and became a contractor. Not only this, he made such a nexus with the officers that in a few years he got the contract of building a road worth crores. He did not stop there, he spent so much money on his wedding that people call his wedding the most expensive wedding in the city. After the farewell, the bride was brought by helicopter.
Big revelations have been made about Suresh Chandrakar, who got Bijapur journalist Mukesh Chandrakar murdered. Accused Suresh used to work as a cook in the police department in 2008, where his salary was just Rs 1500. After this, he started small contracting in 2012. In 2016, he got the biggest contract of Rs 50 crore. In connivance with the officials, he revised the budget of this road to Rs 120 crore. He became the biggest contractor in the Naxal-affected area of Bastar.
The same road for which Mukesh had reported corruption, made Suresh Chandrakar the owner of crores. Suresh joined the SPO force during the Salwa Judum movement. His salary was only Rs 1500. He left the job in 2010. He started doing small contracts in 2012. After that, he started getting construction work in the highly Naxal-affected area of Bijapur. In 2016, he got the contract to build a 32 km road from Bangalore to Nelnar for Rs 50 crore. In 2019, during the tenure of the Congress, the contract was revised to Rs 120 crore in connivance with the officials and the price was increased. The road work is still going on, the road is not complete and 90 percent of the amount has been paid to Suresh.
The 17 km long road which was built, which included about 6 km built this year, got washed away in the rains this year itself. After the uproar subsided the Chief Minister himself ordered an inquiry. A social leader filed an RTI, but he did not get any information. It is alleged that he was sent to jail in a fake atrocity case. Ajay Singh, the social activist who filed an RTI on the road, says that Suresh Chandrakar did not have a bicycle earlier. Now he has a convoy of more than 50 vehicles. Each vehicle costs more than Rs 1 crore. The budget for the road was revised from Rs 50 crore to Rs 120 crore. The road was not even built, but the amount was given, and the road got washed away in the rain. When I filed an RTI, I was sent to jail.
