Another queried: "#BBCNews what has Clive Myrie done to his eye, has someone thumped him?"
A fifth mused: "@BBCNews I hope Clive Myrie's OK. A lot of us are noticing his droopy eye."
A sixth added: "@BBCNews Mum's watching the news and pointed out that Clive's left eye looks odd. Hope he's okay? #clivemyrie."
Clive has since broken his silence after his appearance caused an influx of concerning messages on social media.
Taking to X tonight the Mastermind host assured viewers he is doing well.
He penned: "Happy N.Year everyone and thank you all for your concern over my left eye. It's nothing serious, just an infection. I did think about wearing an eye patch, but the boss said no! A bit like Long John Silver. He wasn't having any of it! Cheers."
The broadcaster, 60, has been at the helm of weekday bulletins on BBC One since June 2014.
However, as he delivered the news this evening, audiences at home noticed something different about his appearance.
While his right eye was fully open, the left appeared half closed, prompting viewers to question what had happened.
A BBC spokesperson said: "Clive is fine and just has an eye infection."
