By making a clean sweep in the 2-Test series against South Africa, Pakistan has not only hurt itself but also caused a loss to Team India. The Indian team, which lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and was deprived of playing the final of the World Test Championship, has now lagged behind South Africa in the latest ICC Test team rankings due to the defeat by Pakistan in the second Test played in Cape Town. In the second and last test of the series played in Cape Town, South Africa defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets.
South Africa's victory over Pakistan in the Cape Town Test had two effects. First, Pakistan got a clean sweep. Meaning that test series was lost 0-2. And secondly, the Indian team slipped one place in the latest ICC Test rankings. This is because its place has now been taken by South Africa.
Team India was second after Australia in the ICC Test team rankings. But after the results of the Cape Town Test came out, South Africa became the second number team, while Team India slipped to the third position. Till the results of the Cape Town Test came out, the Indian team was at the second position. But, Australia has become the number 1 Test team after its 126 rating points. Whereas South Africa has reached second place with 112 rating. With 109 rating points, Team India has become the number three Test team.
Pakistan had set an easy target of 58 runs for South Africa to win the Cape Town Test, which it achieved without losing any wicket. Earlier, while batting first, South Africa had scored 615 runs in the first innings. In reply, Pakistan's first innings was limited to 194 runs, after which South Africa forced it to follow on. Pakistan had scored 478 runs in the second innings.
