Indian cinema has seen the rise of gore in films. The filmmakers relies on graphic violence to evoke shock and adrenaline among viewers. Beginning with Sandeep Reddy Vangas Animal the 2023 movie was once crowned as the most violent film in India. Ranbir Kapoors film was a benchmark for gore blood and gratuitous violence in its time shocking Indian viewers. Then in 2024 Karan Johar announced the most-violent movie Kill with almost the same bloodshed and violence. These movies made the Indian audience believe that they were the epitome of gore but now comes a new and unexpected player – a Malayalam film. This film is now being touted as “Indias most violent” ever with reports suggesting that viewers couldnt bear the amount of violence and ended up vomiting in the theatres. The movie directed by Haneef Adeni has found an audience pan-India and has already breached the Rs 100-crore mark at the box office. The lead actor has shared shocking details about the movie that almost 300 litres of blood-like substance was used while shooting the film and he also posed a risk of losing his vision because of the substance. We are talking about Marco. The making of Indias most violent film In an exclusive interview with India Today Unni Mukundan revealed It was a chemical with a lot of sugar in it. So if you are diabetic you should not be a part of a film with such bloodshed (laughs). Its too sweet. The actor took a significant risk without quite realising how dangerous it can be. I had trouble because I had to put a certain type of chemical in the eye just to make it look more red and authentic the actor said. However he could have lost his vision because of that. Because of temperature changes this material would get sticky. My doctor later told me that it could have literally damaged my eyes. I shouldnt have done it he said. Marco dethrones Kill Animal and Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire 2023 saw the release of Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire an excessively violent film with blood splattered all over the screen. In 2024 Bollywood’s Kill impressed audiences with its gory and violent thrills. Now Unni Mukundan’s Marco is being marketed as the most violent Malayalam film yet delivering mind-blowing action sequences. Marco had a good run in theatres across Kerala and other parts of the country. The film is available in Malayalam Hindi Tamil and Telugu Marco is tasting success charting it to more than just violence. Also starring Kabir Duhan Singh Siddique Abhimanyu Thilakan and Jagadish in key roles Marco is directed by Haneef Adeni. It has been rated A and features numerous scenes depicting extreme violence. The film has entered the big league. With a 100-crore worldwide collection it’s unstoppable.
