Some people become their victims knowingly or unknowingly. Now the Cyber Crime Wing of Tamil Nadu Police has alerted people about a new type of scam. This is being called 'jumped deposit' scam. Many complaints of such scams have been received on the National Cyber Crime Portal.
What is jumped deposit scam?
In this type of scam, the fraudster will first send some money to the victim through UPI. As soon as the money is credited to the account, the victim will receive an SMS. Usually, people check their accounts as soon as such messages come. As soon as the victim proceeds to check his account, the fraudsters will request to withdraw money from his account. When the victim enters the PIN number in the mobile to check the account, the fraudster's request to withdraw money is approved. In such a situation, fraudsters withdraw many times more money than the money sent.
Police said- people should be alert
Police have asked people to be cautious about such SMS. Cyber Crime Wing has advised that people should not check their accounts immediately on receiving any such information. They should wait for some time for the withdrawal request to expire. Apart from this, any such request can also be canceled if the PIN is entered wrongly for the first time. If there is any suspicious transaction in someone's account then he should contact the bank.
Police officials said that many complaints about this scam are also being received on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. He has asked the victims of the scam to immediately report such cases to the nearest cyber crime police station and portal so that action can be taken as soon as possible.
