Following India’s disastrous performance in the just finished Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s Test futures seem to be at a crossroads following a lackluster batting performance.

Following a poor performance in Australia, Rohit’s leadership situation has become even more problematic due to India’s declining Test cricket results.

On Sunday’s Special General Meeting, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is scheduled to hold its first meeting on the matter. According to the Hindustan Times, Devajit Saikia, the board’s new secretary, has asked chief selector Ajit Agarkar to give a “strict message” on resolving the major issue regarding the future of the senior players and “choosing a new team.”

When the senior players traveled for Australia after a series thrashing at home against New Zealand, there was a concern over their position in the squad. Virat and Rohit’s declining performance in the just-ended series has now prompted the need for quick action.

Although he only managed to score 90 more runs in the remaining innings, Kohli did have moments of genius during the Perth Test when he hammered a breathtaking century.

Before choosing to skip the pivotal fifth and final Test match in Sydney, Rohit, who missed the first Test because his kid was born, managed only 31 runs in five innings.

According to Hindustan Times, a former BCCI official told Dainik Jagran that he wants the board to send a clear message by implying that Rohit and Kohli, who are not playing well, should be removed from the Test squad. He also reminded them that no player is more important than the game.

“The message is not going well. Although people on the internet might be naughty, the BCCI must oversee cricket in the nation and should be shown doing so. It is now necessary to convey the clear message that no player should think of himself as superior to the game. It is now necessary to choose a new team. “The new secretary should call Ajit Agarkar, who is in charge of the BCCI’s selection committee, and send him a firm message,” he added.
