SEOUL: After the presidential security service thwarted its earlier effort last week, South Korea’s anti-corruption agency reports that it has been granted a fresh court order to hold impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol.
The duration of the warrant’s validity was not immediately confirmed by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials on Tuesday.
After Yoon disobeyed authorities by declining to attend for interrogation about the Dec. 3 martial rule proclamation, the Seoul Western District Court last week first issued a warrant to arrest him and then a second request to search his home.
After a heated confrontation with the presidential security service that lasted more than five hours, dozens of investigators from anti-corruption agencies and accompanying police officers tried to arrest Yoon on Friday but withdrew from his Seoul home. Before the prior court warrants expired on Monday, the detectives didn’t try to arrest Yoon again.
