One such intriguing story was shared by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan who once revealed an incident that occurred during the filming of a movie with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan long before she became his daughter-in-law. Amitabh Bachchan Talked About The Accident During the shooting of the 2004 action thriller Khakee in Nashik a terrifying incident occurred on set when Aishwarya Rai was injured. The scene involved a high-speed car stunt and unfortunately the actress along with co-actor Tusshar Kapoor was caught off-guard when the car lost control. Amitabh Bachchan who was on set at the time recalls the chilling moments of the accident in a conversation with Rediff. He said We were shooting for Rajkumar Santoshis Khakee on the road outside Nashik. The stuntman drove too fast at 60 or 70 kilometres per hour and the car skidded. All of us jumped out of the way but Aishwarya Rai and Tusshar Kapoor couldn’t move fast enough. The car slammed into her chair. It was terrifying. The car hit her and took her down a crevice and slammed into a cactus plant. Akshay Kumar pulled the car out and extricated her. We rushed her to the hospital. We had to go through terrible crowd management problems. I’ve gone through this VIP syndrome before. Thank God the hospital and doctor were very good. The commissioner of police in Nashik organised everything. He Then Arranged A Private Plane For Aishwarya Rai Amitabh Bachchan also talked about the efforts made to get Aishwarya Rai back to Mumbai sharing how a private plane was arranged to ensure her safe and quick transport. He mentioned I asked Aishwarya’s mother if she wanted to take her daughter back to Mumbai. We organised Anil Ambanis private plane. Since there’s no night landing facility in Nashik we had to take permission from Delhi to land the plane at the military base which is 45 minutes away from the hospital. The seats had to be removed from the aircraft. He mentioned that the media at the time reported the incident as a minor accident but he was deeply disturbed by how trivialized the situation had been. He said Everyone is brushing it off as a small incident blown out of proportion. For two nights I couldnt sleep. To see this happen in front of my eyes! Her back was lacerated with cactus thorns. The bone in the rear portion of her feet is broken. She suffered severe cuts. And her injury was reported as trivial. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi the film starred an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan Akshay Kumar Ajay Devgn Aishwarya Rai and Tusshar Kapoor. Khakee was released in 2004.
