Sagar Island: In the backdrop of turmoil in Bangladesh, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday urged the Indian Navy and Coast Guard to be on alert as Ganga Sagar Mela will be underway.

“I have spoken with the Navy. We have to keep vigil on land, air and waters,” said Mamata at Sagar Island while inaugurating various state government sponsored schemes worth Rs. 154 crore.

Notably, apart from making Gangasagar mela biodegradable, three bridges on three rivers have been built in Sagar.

For development of Sunderbans 3997.5 lakhs has been spent. Rs. 48.48 lakhs have been given for women and children development only for Sagar. Several lakh rupees have also been given for school education of children.

The West Bengal Chief Minister also urged the authorities of Kapil Muni Ashram to lay concrete around the temple premises to check erosion.

“Our government has already planted 15 crore mangrove plants in Digha and Sunderbans. The authorities of Kapil Muni Ashram can use a small portion of their donations for laying concrete around the temple. The rest of the things will be taken care of by us. We have built new roads, jetties and are also trying to arrange better transportation facilities,” further mentioned Mamata.

After reaching back to Kolkata, Mamata referring to panic on HMPV virus said that ‘no cases have been found in Bengal’.

“The Chief Secretary is continuously doing meetings on this. There is no need to panic. Some news channels are doing the hype to create panic and earn money,” mentioned Mamata.
