Earthquake Of Magnitude 7.1 Jolts Tibet Near Nepal Border, Tremors Felt In Several Parts Of India; Visuals Surface

A powerful earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale struck Tibet near the Nepalese border today, with tremors felt across several parts of India, including Bihar and Assam.

Details On The Quake

The earthquake occurred at 6:35 a.m. IST, approximately 93 kilometres northeast of Lobuche, Nepal, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Nepal lies in a highly seismically active zone, where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide, forming the Himalayas and causing frequent earthquakes in the region.

"An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 on the Richter Scale hit 93 km North East of Lobuche, Nepal at 06:35:16 IST today," said USGS Earthquakes.

Tremors Felt In Several Parts Of India

In Bihar, the tremors caused alarm among residents, prompting many to rush out of their homes and apartments. Despite the intensity of the quake, there have been no reports of property damage or casualties so far. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely.

Two More Aftershocks Reported After 7.1 Magnitude Quake

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported that the initial earthquake occurred at 6:35 am. This was followed by two aftershocks in the same region.

The second earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.7, struck at 7:02 a.m. at a shallow depth of 10 km. The third, slightly stronger, had a magnitude of 4.9 and was recorded at 7:07 a.m. at a depth of 30 km.
