A Travelling Auctioneers’ guest could not film the final auction scenes after suffering a health scare, but “good news” was on its way.

Auctioneer Izzie Balmer and restoration expert Robin Johnson travelled up to Aberdeenshire to meet with Nina and Norman, who were ready to sell some beloved antiques.

Nina moved into her late mother Maggie’s home to care for Norman, her mum’s partner for 25 years. Maggie and Norman’s love story started when they went to university in the 1960s, with the pair going to a York art school and “never lost contact.”

Sadly, Maggie’s husband, Barry, died when Nina was 13, and Norman’s wife, Lottie, died years later.

“Maggie helped me quite a lot after the death of my wife. We saw a bit more of each other, and then slowly, over the months, it grew”, Norman shared.

The money from selling various pieces of Maggie’s antiques would go towards renovating the house that Nina and Norman now shared.

When it came to the big day, narrator Christina Trevanion revealed that Nina would attend the auction alone. She stated: “Unfortunately, Norman isn’t well enough to be here today. However, Nina has made the 53-mile journey to say farewell to her mother’s belongings.”

Nina explained further when she sat down with Robin for a catch-up: “He had a mild heart attack. He’s OK, he’s on the road to recovery.”

Robin replied: “Well, hopefully, after today, you can go back and give him the good news of all the money that’s been raised.”

The auction began, and a plethora of items were being sold for a good price, including Norman’s painting from Canadian artist John Little, which had “generated considerable interest.”

Kicking off the item’s sale, Izzie said: “Now this was Norman’s pride and joy, and he loved this.”

She shared that the starting bid was £380, and she intended to sell it for £400, but a bidding war broke out between two Canadian buyers, one on the phone and another online.

The figure continued to rise until the gavel fell on the online bidder, who purchased the painting for a whopping £9,000.

Smiling, Nina exclaimed: “Amazing”, as she, Robin, and the rest of the bidders in the auction room began to applaud.

Nina asked, “Do you think Norman will be pleased with that?” To which Nina replied, “He will be very pleased. Thank you, Izzie.”

Later, Izzie and Robin revealed that Nina and Norman’s items had made a profit of £10,707 overall. Nina commented: “That’s really good. I’m delighted. I’ll go give Norman the good news.”
