New Delhi: According to an official press release, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma invited diplomats, including ambassadors and high commissioners from ASEAN, BIMSTEC, and European nations, as well as stakeholders and leaders in the sector, to invest in Assam on Tuesday.
According to CM Sarma’s keynote presentation to business executives, ambassadors from 36 nations, and other stakeholders, the state of Assam has made significant strides in the last ten years in a number of areas, including infrastructure, health, and education.
According to Sarma, the state would soon see Rs 1 lakh crore worth of new infrastructure projects, including a railway connection from Guwahati to Gelephu, Bhutan; three more bridges over the Brahmaputra; and a satellite city around Guwahati with assistance from the Singaporean government.
The Chief Minister emphasized the significance of green energy, stating that the administration has always prioritized clean, green, and renewable energy. According to him, the government wants all upcoming Assamese enterprises, including the Tata semiconductor facility in Jagiroad, to get their electricity from renewable sources.
Assam’s economy is expected to develop at a pace of 12.5%, making it one of the nation’s greatest growth engines, according to Chief Minister Sarma. In addition to having a robust economy, he claimed, the state is a center for education, home to prestigious establishments such as the Indian Institute of Technology, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, IIT, AIIMS, IIM, several state and central universities, the Agriculture University, and future projects like the NIELIT University campus.
“Assam has the necessary expertise and capacity to deliver. It has the resources to guarantee that investors get incentives comparable to those provided by other states in the nation,” he said.
Similarly, the Chief Minister said that the government will establish a production incentive corpus fund worth an astounding Rs 25,000 crore to promote fast industrialization in the state.
“Come and become partners of Assam’s growth story,” added the minister.
According to CM Sarma, his administration is actively negotiating with the Ministry of Defense to declare the Guwahati region that borders Nagaon to be a defense corridor.
According to the Chief Minister, 10,000 young people are receiving skill instruction from the North East Skill Center, demonstrating the government’s strong priority on skill development.
The Chief Minister praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving the development of the Northeast region high attention, claiming that Modi was the one who designated the Northeast as “India’s growth engine” and “Ashtalakshmi.”
In addition to the preservation of historic legacy, CM Sarma focused extensively on the conservation success stories of natural resources and Kaziranga and Manas National Parks.
On February 24, the day before the Advantage Assam Summit 2.0, the Chief Minister invited diplomats to Assam to see the largest Jhumur dance performance, which would include 8,000 dancers and be viewed by the Prime Minister and other dignitaries.
“I appeal to you to come on February 24 to witness the Jhumur dance to feel the cultural vibrancy and youthfulness of Assam,” he said.
Ravi Kota, the chief secretary of Assam, provided a summary of the state’s advantages and investment prospects in important industries, including tourism, food and beverage production, scent and flavors, renewable energy, and logistics and transportation.
Kota listed the following as the main reasons for investment: Assam’s strategic location as the entry point to the BBN and ASEAN nations; abundant natural resources; dependable and strong connectivity; skilled human resources; industry-friendly industrial policy; a policy ecosystem; ease of doing business; and strong industrial infrastructure.
Assam is on a stronger economic trajectory and is no longer a place of “lahe lahe” (slow-moving), according to Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs.
Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, Chairman, FICCI, NEAC, Ranjit Barthakur, President, FICCI, and CEO, Invest India, attended the sessions and spoke with diplomats, business executives, and investors.
Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister for Commerce and Industries, was also present at the roundtable for investors.
A roundtable discussion with bilateral chambers and trade groups kicked off the day-long prelude to the Advantage Assam Summit 2.0.
