New Delhi: On January 12 Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia will be elected unopposed as the BCCI secretary and treasurer respectively. This outcome follows their status as the sole candidates after the nomination process overseen by BCCI’s electoral officer Achal Kumar Joti. These elections represent a significant step in continuing the leadership of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The nomination period wrapped up last week with the cut-off for withdrawals set for 2 PM on Tuesday. Since no one retracted their nominations the final candidate list was released at 5 PM that day. This seamless process highlights the trust in Saikia and Bhatias ability to steer the BCCI in their upcoming terms.
Devajit Saikia has been acting as the interim secretary of the BCCI since December 1 when Jay Shah took over as ICC chairman. His time in this interim role has been marked by a sense of stability likely influencing the decision to officially appoint him. With his considerable experience in the organization Saikia is well-prepared for this new phase of leadership.
Prabhtej Singh Bhatia will assume the treasurers position after Ashish Shelar vacated the role to become a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government. Bhatias selection serves as a strategic move to ensure strong financial management and oversight for the BCCI.
The elections will occur during the Special General Meeting (SGM) on January 12 with results expected to be announced that day. Given that both candidates are running unopposed the outcome is largely regarded as a formality setting the stage for a promising new chapter in BCCI leadership.
