The iconic Mysore Cafe in Mumbai a South Indian culinary institution since 1936 holds a special place in the hearts of many including Indias richest family the Ambanis. Known for its authentic flavors and rich history this legendary eatery has long been a favorite of Mukesh Ambani who used to visit it during his student years at UDCT (now ICT) from 1974 to 1979. Today Mysore Cafe remains a cherished part of the Ambani family’s routine with meals from the cafe being ordered by them as a Sunday tradition.
Who Is Shanteri Nayak?
On July 12 Anant Ambani the youngest son of Mukesh and Nita Ambani tied the knot with Radhika Merchant in a spectacular wedding at Jio World Drive in Mumbai. The three-day celebration was a grand affair attended by global leaders politicians celebrities and influencers. Among the notable attendees was Shanteri Nayak the former owner of Mysore Cafe who has a special connection with the Ambani family.
A heartwarming moment from the wedding went viral capturing Anant Ambani enthusiastically introducing Radhika to Shanteri Nayak. With a warm smile Radhika said to Shanteri “Every Sunday we enjoy your food at home.” Anant added “It’s only because of you that we get to relish such delicious meals.” The couple expressed their gratitude thanking Shanteri for her presence at their special occasion.
Also seen in the video were Anand Piramal and Shloka Mehta who joined in greeting the former cafe owner highlighting the deep bond the Ambani family shares with Mysore Cafe.
Mysore Cafe’s Rich Legacy
Mysore Cafe established in 1936 is a beloved South Indian eatery located in Mumbai. Known for its delectable idlis sambars and dosas the cafe has been a culinary haven for generations. Shanteri Nayak who once owned the cafe played a pivotal role in maintaining its legacy before passing the reins to her son Naresh Nayak.
Mukesh Ambani’s connection with Mysore Cafe dates back to his college days when the cafe served as a go-to spot for affordable and delicious meals. Decades later the tradition continues with the Ambani family enjoying the cafe’s offerings as part of their weekly routine.
Special Invitation To Shanteri Nayak
Following the grand wedding the Ambanis hosted a reception on July 15 exclusively for their domestic staff and Reliance employees. But they also invited former owner of Mysore Cafe Shanteri Nayak for the wedding.
Speaking at the event Mukesh Ambani expressed heartfelt gratitude and shared his wishes for the newlyweds. He said “Most importantly I hope your blessings and well wishes remain with Radhika and Anant as they embark on this beautiful journey to start their new life and build their family.”
