Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee has reportedly decided to stay put at Old Trafford despite interest from other clubs in the January transfer window. It has only been a few months since the 23-year-old was signed from Bologna in the summer.
Former United boss Erik ten Hag signed Zirkzee for £36.5million after his 16 goal contributions helped Bologna qualify for the Champions League last term. However, Zirkzee and the club's other summer recruits have done little to improve the team, with Ten Hag's successor Ruben Amorim also struggling to lift out of the bottom half of the Premier League.
Zirkzee faced a personal low when the Netherlands international was booed off as a first-half substitute during United's loss to Newcastle last week. However, it seems he is determined to ignore any transfer interest in January and fight for his place in Amorim's team.
Sky Sports has reported that Zirkzee is not interested in leaving United this transfer window, and is keen to win over his critics at Old Trafford. The 23-year-old has scored four goals in 28 appearances for the Red Devils but has seemingly remained hot property across Europe.
A number of Premier League clubs and Italian heavyweights Juventus, Napoli, Inter Milan and AC Milan are claimed to have approached Zirkzee's camp. On Tuesday, Juventus were said to have proposed a swap deal to United involving Zirkzee and striker Dusan Vlahovic, who has scored 12 goals in 23 games this term.
Despite this, suggest Zirkzee will not be moving in January, having opted to stay put at United. The forward, who came off the bench against Liverpool last weekend, is determined to turn over a new leaf under Amorim.
Discussing Zirkzee's future, Amorim confirmed that the striker is part of his plans. However, the United boss refused to completely rule out the Netherlands international moving on in the January window.
"I want to keep Josh because he gives everything and he's trying in training but we don't know," Amorim said. "The window is open and we will see what happens.
"We just need to focus on training and to take this for the other games. It's just one point so let's focus on the performance for the next games."Zirkzee's next chance to impress will be in United's high-stakes FA Cup clash with Arsenal on Sunday.
