The average width of river Ganga in Prayagraj is 1.5 kilometers. If you have ever come to Sangam, you must have seen that Ganga reaches Sangam through three streams. Islands are formed in the middle of the Ganga. Till now it was of no use. This time many deltas have been made missing. With the help of IIT Guhavati, the Irrigation Department made a plan, under which the flow of Ganga was diverted. This has been possible with the help of sea-going dredger machine.
Now former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has attacked the Uttar Pradesh government for changing the course of river Ganga. He wrote on social media These are self-made paths for the continuity of the natural flow of rivers. “Recognizing this geographical truth, tampering with the flow of rivers is an environmental crime.”
“The purpose of installing dredger machine in Ganga ji in Prayagraj Mahakumbh is only to give contracts to our people and earn money through corruption through them. The place where the rivers will meet should be left to nature; doing it arbitrarily and forcefully changing the flow is both unfair and undesirable. “Doing so will have a negative impact on the biology and natural ecological balance of the aquatic life and animals of Ganga.”
Machines digging in Ganga
According to the report of Dainik Bhaskar, earlier three streams of Ganga used to meet at Sangam, but now all three streams have been united. Due to this, the fair area has also increased by about 87 bighas. It will be used in the fair and it is the most prime location of Sangam area. A large number of JCBs and many dredger machines were deployed to unify the flow of Ganga. Dredger machines consume about 600 liters of diesel in an hour.

While talking to Dainik Bhaskar, the driver of the dredger machine said that these machines are used in the sea. Many times, big sea ships get stuck in the mud due to low water. Then the dredger machine does the work of removing the soil to remove the ships stuck in the water.
It is believed that there is a confluence of three rivers in Prayagraj, that is why it is also called Triveni. At the confluence point, the streams of Ganga and Yamuna are seen meeting, but the third river Saraswati is not visible. This place has great religious importance. This is also mentioned in the Puranas. In such a situation, Akhilesh Yadav has targeted Yogi Adityanath without taking his name for diverting the natural flow of Ganga.
