Kobbie Mainoo to Chelsea transfer truth as Man Utd PSR problem opens door to deal

Kobbie Mainoo is a name not many would have expected to be involved in transfer rumours this January. But that is the case as Manchester United look to ensure they remain compliant with and Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Mainoo is seen as one of England's brightest talents. At 19 years old, the midfielder was one of England's bright lights at Euro 2024 in his first big tournament having become a regular in the Manchester United first team.

United supporters will be hoping he is in their starting lineup for years to come, but reports have surfaced suggested the Red Devils would be open to selling him.

Previously deemed unsellable, United, like many other teams in the , need to ensure they remain financially compliant. And with Mainoo having come through the club's academy, selling him would represent 'pure profit'.

That's not to say United are actively looking to sell, but more they would listen to offers were they to come in, rather than rejecting them out of hand.

One such offer could come from . , although there have been no talks with United or his representatives over a move.

The will continue to monitor his situation, with Mainoo and his representatives sure to be in talks with United in the coming months over a new contract at Old Trafford. Mainoo himself is not thinking about leaving United.

Reports have suggested that Mainoo is happy where he is and that he has "no concerns" over his immediate Manchester United future, despite the club. The Guardian report that "there is recognition from Sir Jim Ratcliffe that the club have been poor sellers and with finance limited because of profitability and sustainability rules, sales have to become a key part of healthy squad management".
