Elizabeth Taylor was a British-American actress and one of the most iconic figures in Hollywood History. She was known for her beauty acting talent and tumultuous personal life. Taylor gained fame as a child actor and later became one of the top actresses in Hollywood during the 1950s and 1960s.
Taylor starred in numerous classic films including Cleopatra (1963) Whos Afraid of Virgina Woolf? (1966) and Butterfield 8 (1960) for which she won two Academy Awards for Best Actress. Her career was marked her ability to portray complex characters earning her critical acclaim and a lasting legacy in the film industry.
In her late years Taylor appeared in television shows and made a guest appearance on various shows. Her notable work on TV includes Raintree County Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Suddenly Last Summer and more. She was one a Hollywood icon during the Golden Age.
Beyond her acting career Taylor was famous for her two marriages to actor Richard Burton and her extensive charity work. The actress got married eight times to seven different men. She first got married to Conrad Nicky Hilton (1950 - 1951) the heir of the Hilton Hotel fortune. The marriage lasted less than a year and ended in divorce.
Michael Wilding (1952 - 1957) was her second husband. They had two sons together before their marriage ended in divorce. Her third marriage was with Mike Todd (1957 - 1958) who was one of her true great loves. But tragically Todd died in a plane crash a year after their marriage.
The actresss fourth husband was Eddie Fisher Mike Todd (1957 - 1958). Their marriage was highly publisied and lasted five years. The actress then married Richard Burton — the love of her life and the man she married twice! They made global headlines starring in eleven films together and becoming one of the most famous couples in the world. After a decade of tumultuous love they divorced remarried and divorced again.
Elizabeth met her sixth husband John Warner on a blind date when he escorted her to a dinner hosted by Queen Elizabeth at the British Embassy in Washington D.C. They married the same year they met but unfortunately their marriage ended after six years. Taylors eight and final husband was Larry Fortensky (1991-1996) a construction worker twenty years her junior. Elizabeth Taylor passed away on March 23 2011 at the age of 79 du to congestive heart failure. She was battling heart complications in her later years which ultimately led to her death.
