Baby John Box Office Day 15: Varun Dhawan starrer records a new low with only Rs 20 lakh earnings on its second Wednesday, while 'Pushpa 2' continues to dominate
When Varun Dhawan made his entry into the world of Bollywood with ‘Student Of The Year,’ everyone knew he had the potential to carve a niche with his work. Soon after with movies like ‘Badlapur’ and ‘October’ he made the audience see a different side of his. He did a lot of comedy films, in which some worked and some did, but then he did ‘Bedhiya’ which kept the cash registers ringing at the box office. However, his latest release ‘Baby John’ which was one of the most talked about projects of the actor, failed miserably to create the same magic. The film on its second Wednesday, recorded its lowest collection i.e. Rs 20 Lakhs, and in total, after 15 days it has not been able to make a business of Rs40 crores, according to the Sacnilk report.
Directed by Kalees, this movie had a buzz right from the word go. When the teaser came out, everyone was simply stunned. However, close to the release, it appeared as if the film had started to lose its charm. Despite getting the benefits of a holiday release window on Christmas, the movie was able to earn Rs 11.25 crore only. Unfortunately, to date, the movie failed to match or even come close to its opening numbers.

On the other hand, the Allu Arjun starrer mass entertainer ‘Pushpa 2’ even after a month of release has a stronghold over the box office. The movie has crossed the Rs1200 mark in India, and its Hindi version alone has contributed almost Rs.800 crore to the collection.
Meanwhile, according to Varun Dhawan’s co-star and famous actor Rajpal, ‘Baby John’ failed only because it is a remake of the Tamil film, ‘Theri,’ and people have already seen that. In a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Rajpal said that if it had not been a remake, then the said movie would have been the most well-made film of his 25-year career. “But since Vijay had done it, the audience had already seen it and because it was a remake, it affected the box office of the film,” quoted the actor.
