Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is launching a new lifestyle series on Netflix titled "With Love, Meghan," premiering January 15. Markle will host and executive produce the series, filmed near her California home.
The series marks Markle's return to the public eye after a period of relative quiet. It follows the couple's 2022 docuseries, "Harry & Meghan," and the less successful sports docuseries "Polo," which premiered in December. "With Love, Meghan" is Markle's first solo project for Netflix.
However, according to a report, the British royal family is unlikely to watch the series. Quoting sources in the palance, Kinsey Schofield, host of the "To Di For Daily" podcast, told Fox News that the Prince and Princess of Wales have no interest in Meghan’s future projects. Schofield further quoted a palace source as saying, "‘Meghan was a background character in a chapter that’s already closed.’" Another royal expert, Richard Fitzwilliams, said, "The royals just couldn’t give a damn."
The series features celebrity guests including actress Mindy Kaling, Tracy Robbins, and Markle's former "Suits" co-star Abigail Spencer. Markle starred in "Suits" before marrying Prince Harry in 2018.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California. They signed a multi-year deal with Netflix, reportedly worth $100 million.
Royal commentator Helena Chard believes the royal family will focus on their duties and downplayed the significance of the series. Chard states, "Having endured a tumultuous year, our royal family is feeling thankful, positive and optimistic and certainly have much bigger fish to fry going forward."
While the royals' reaction remains to be seen, the series is expected to generate interest and headlines. Meanwhile, talking to Fox, Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner predicted Markle to "make great strides this year." He also noted the royal family will likely "seethe quietly" and "diligently pass no comment."
Markle and Prince Harry's decided to leave the Royal Family in 2020.
In an earlier Netflix docuseries, the couple shared insights into their time in the Royal Family. Additionally, Harry discussed his family in his debut memoir, "Spare," where he claimed that Prince William physically attacked him, and their father, King Charles, prioritized William's interests over his own.
Furthermore, in their documentary series, Harry expressed his belief that the Royal Family purposefully leaked stories about him and Meghan to the British press.
