January 9, Patna All schools in the Araria district of Bihar have postponed sessions up to the eighth grade till January 12 due to the extreme cold wave conditions.

District Magistrate Anil Kumar issued an order suspending instruction in all Araria district schools and coaching centers up to the eighth grade till January 12.

Prioritizing the health and safety of young kids, the decision was taken in accordance with Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023.

According to him, until January 12, all educational activities up to Class 8 in both public and private schools—including pre-schools, Anganwadi centers, and coaching institutes—are forbidden.

Students in grades 9 through 12 will attend classes from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Pre-board and board students are excluded and will continue their regular lectures and exams. During this time, teachers are required to stay in the classroom.

Block Development Officers, the District Education Officer, the District Program Officer, and other authorities have been instructed to make sure that the order is strictly followed.

Because of the cold, the Sheohar district government has also decided to suspend school until January 12.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said there won’t be any quick respite from the extreme cold wave that is expected to continue across Bihar.

Bihar’s frigid weather would be indirectly exacerbated by further snowfall in the mountainous areas due to a powerful Western Disturbance that is predicted to affect Northwest India starting on Friday.

Lower temperatures and more severe cold are predicted for Araria, Sheohar, and other areas of North Bihar, particularly in the mornings and nights.

Bihar is expected to see very chilly temperatures till Makar Sankranti on January 14. In the mornings and evenings, dense fog is expected to linger, decreasing visibility and raising the temperature.

The minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to decrease by two to three degrees Celsius during the next two days, according to the IMD. The current situation emphasizes how urgently local authorities must take action to protect pupils from the health hazards presented by the severe weather. For example, lessons have been suspended until Class 8 in the districts of Araria and Sheohar. It is recommended that residents take preventative measures to remain warm, particularly in the mornings and nights when temperatures are at their lowest.
