UGC, University Professor Eligibility: The new education policy 2020 is being implemented in Indian schools and college education. Under this, a decision has been taken to change the appointment process of teachers teaching in all universities, colleges, and other higher educational institutions across the country. For this, UGC has also released a draft. According to this, now teachers will be appointed only on the basis of PhD and NET subjects instead of UG, and PG subjects.

Till now, the minimum eligibility for teacher recruitment in universities and colleges was to have graduation, post-graduation, and PhD or NET studies in one subject, that is, the entire higher education should be in one subject. But now UGC has abolished this compulsion. According to the new rule, the candidate may have done graduation or post-graduation in any subject, but his appointment for any subject will be done only based on a PhD or NET subject.

Professor Recruitment: New rules to implement new education policy
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has changed the rules for teacher recruitment and promotion in universities and colleges to implement the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020). UGC has also released a draft regarding these changes. Under this, all higher educational institutions will have to implement the new rules for teacher recruitment within 6 months. Higher educational institutions include universities, deemed universities, autonomous colleges, and other colleges.

Professor Recruitment: Teachers will get promotion on this basis
UGC has changed the teacher recruitment rules as well as the promotion policy of teachers in higher education institutions. Now while promoting teachers in universities and colleges, their academic performance, skills, and experience will be given importance. In the new proposed rules, a special recruitment process will be adopted to attract the best talents from diverse fields like yoga, music, performing and visual arts, sculpture, and drama.

Benefits of changes in the UGC teacher recruitment process

Flexibility: Candidates can pursue a teaching career in subjects that qualify NET/SET, even if the subjects are different from UG and PG. PhD specialization will be given priority in this.

Promotion of Indian languages: UGC's new draft promotes the use of Indian languages in academic publications and degree programs.

Holistic Evaluation: It aims to eliminate score-based short-listing by focusing on a wide range of qualifications including notable contributions.

Diverse talent pool: The new draft will make the recruitment process easier for experts in arts, sports, and traditional subjects.

Inclusivity: All talented players, including disabled players, will get an opportunity to make a career in the field of teaching.
