After years of waiting, it now seems that Android phones are finally getting on the same level as Apple's MagSafe wireless charging. The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has confirmed that Qi2 wireless charging is coming to Android phones, with Samsung and Google leading the way. This announcement at CES 2025 has increased the excitement for fans who have been waiting for a long time for the Qi2 wireless charging standard in Android smartphones.

Qi2: The next big step in wireless charging
For those who don't know, Qi2 is a major improvement in wireless charging, which will replace the old Qi standard. This technology promises faster and more efficient charging, with charging speeds that can go up to 15W. Qi2 technology uses magnetic rings, which keep the device integrated with the charger. This design reduces energy waste, making the charging process more reliable and efficient. While Apple's MagSafe has been using similar technology since 2023, Android phones have lagged in this regard so far. But the arrival of Qi2 could end this gap.

Big contribution of Samsung and Google
Samsung and Google have officially confirmed the adoption of the Qi2 standard. Samsung has announced that Galaxy phones will start supporting Qi2 by the end of this year, although it is not yet clear whether the Galaxy S25 series launching this month will have Qi2 support natively. According to leak reports, Qi2 can be found in the S25 series through a special case, but its full integration may be delayed until the Galaxy S26.

Competition with Apple's MagSafe
For years, Apple users have been enjoying a better wireless charging experience through MagSafe. Android phones have supported wireless charging, but it has been less reliable and slow. This situation may change with the arrival of Qi2. By adopting the magnetic alignment system, Android devices will deliver better performance and faster charging, bringing them on par with Apple's technology.
