The Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj is anticipated to be the biggest cultural and spiritual assembly, with projections of more than 450 million participants. The Uttar Pradesh administration is enforcing broad security protocols, featuring increased monitoring at temples and key locations in Maha Kumbh Nagar. Numerous checkpoints will assess every person entering the region, supported by proactive intelligence teams to observe any dubious actions.

UP Government's Safety Measures For Maha Kumbh

Regarding fire safety, the Uttar Pradesh Fire and Emergency Services have implemented modern fire-fighting systems by placing four articulating water towers (AWT) in the fairgrounds. These AWTs, featuring video and thermal imaging, can address fires in sizable buildings and tents, functioning at considerable heights while protecting firefighters. A total budget of ₹131.48 crore has been set aside, enabling the procurement of 351 fire-fighting vehicles and more than 2,000 trained staff.

Furthermore, the event will employ advanced technology for security, incorporating AI and drone monitoring. Underwater drones will track river regions, providing round-the-clock monitoring, while a specialized cybersecurity team works to safeguard the digital components of the event.

Multi-Disaster Response & Emergency Readiness

The newly introduced multi-disaster response vehicle is cutting-edge, featuring victim location cameras, lifting tools, and cutting equipment for effective emergency management. It boasts a lifting bag with 10 to 20-ton capacity for rescuing trapped individuals and machinery to handle heavy objects up to 1.5 tonnes. Essential cutting tools facilitate navigation through debris, while an inbuilt generator powers equipment in adverse conditions. The vehicle also contains life-saving gear like life jackets and temperature-measuring devices for fire incidents.

In addition, remote-controlled life buoys enhance safety responses, swiftly transporting individuals to safety in emergencies. The Incident Response System (IRS) ensures organized action through designated commanders, activating response teams promptly during crises.

A strong seven-level security system, employing strict vehicle inspections and thorough searches throughout Prayagraj, protects the region. The Prayagraj Police have enhanced their resources by establishing temporary police stations and deploying a large workforce, effectively overseeing the arrival of pilgrims with more than 10,000 officers backed by multiple disaster response teams.

Extensive deployments consist of 700 vessels, explosive ordnance disposal teams, and extra security personnel, allowing for a preemptive strategy for safety at the event, supported by 8 areas, 18 divisions, and various inspection points and posts.

Improved River Protection Through Water Patrols

To protect millions of worshippers at the Ganga and Yamuna rivers, especially in the Sangam region, the Uttar Pradesh government has deployed a large contingent of Water Police officers armed with advanced technology. Key initiatives involve enhanced surveillance utilizing underwater drones and sonar technology for ongoing observation. A total of 3,800 personnel from the Water Police will be on site, with 2,500 deployed at first and an extra 1,300 arriving prior to the event.

The effectiveness of emergency response is enhanced by the introduction of 11 FRP speed motorboats for continuous patrols and 25 rechargeable mobile lighting units. Three Water Police stations and two mobile rescue units function around the clock for increased awareness. Four water ambulances, equipped with modern amenities, guarantee medical readiness.

An 8 km stretch has deep-water barricading in place, with specially trained staff prepared to address incidents. The Water Police are additionally well-equipped with diving gear, flotation devices, and life vests. Security protocols encompass land, water, and air, featuring comprehensive mock exercises and sophisticated equipment usage. Moreover, advanced Lost and Found registration hubs are being established to help lost pilgrims and connect them with their families via digital sign-ups and public notifications.
