Renowned playback singer P. Jayachandran , fondly called the " Bhava Gayakan " passed away on January 9 at the age of 80. The veteran singer, known for his emotive voice, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thrissur. He is survived by his wife, Lalitha, daughter Lakshmi, and son Dinanathan .
With a career spanning over six decades, Jayachandran has sung more than 16,000 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. His music resonated deeply with audiences, earning him a special place in the hearts of music lovers across generations. His collaborations with legendary composers such as G. Devarajan, M. S. Baburaj, Ilaiyaraaja, , and M. Jayachandran elevated his craft to iconic status.

Jayachandran was the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 1986 and five Kerala State Film Awards. He also won four Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, the Kalaimamani Award, and the J.C. Daniel Award in 2020, the highest honour in Malayalam cinema.
A trailblazer in the industry, he was the first recipient of the Swaralaya Kairali Yesudas Award in 2001. Known for his ability to convey profound emotion through his voice, Jayachandran was widely regarded as one of the finest expression singers in South India. Apart from singing, Jayachandran also dabbled in acting, appearing in a few films.
