31 tons of food supplies are sent to Syria by Qatar

January 10, Doha As part of the nation’s continuous air bridge operation to help the Syrian people, a Qatari Air Force aircraft carrying 31 tonnes of food supplies touched down in Damascus, the capital of Syria, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said.

The Qatar Fund for Development, a government organization dedicated to raising living standards worldwide, is giving the assistance, according to Xinhua news agency.

It is the eighth humanitarian aircraft sent under the Qatari air bridge program and the fourth to land at Damascus International Airport.

According to airport authorities, the first commercial aircraft from Doha to Damascus International Airport in 13 years arrived on January 7.

Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the prime minister and minister of foreign affairs of Qatar, met with a high-level Syrian delegation headed by temporary foreign minister Asaad Al-Shaibani on January 5 to discuss bilateral relations and the situation in Syria.

A high-level Syrian delegation headed by Asaad Al-Shaibani, the country’s acting foreign minister, met with Qatar’s prime minister and minister of foreign affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, earlier to talk about bilateral relations and the most recent events in Syria.

According to a statement from the Qatari Foreign Ministry, the mission comprised Anas Khattab, the head of the intelligence service, and Syria’s defense minister, Marhaf Abu Qasra.

The two sides discussed a number of topics pertaining to shared interests during the discussion, including the most recent events in Syria, Qatar’s humanitarian aid, and measures to improve bilateral collaboration.

The prime minister of Qatar underlined the significance of realizing the goals of the Syrian people while restating his nation’s steadfast support for Syria’s independence, unity, and sovereignty.

Al-Shaibani, for his part, said that Qatar will be a crucial ally throughout the peace phase and commended the country’s notable contribution in aiding the Syrian people.

Following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, Qatar became the second nation to reopen its embassy in Damascus, Syria, on December 21, 2024. The national flag of Qatar was flown above the embassy building for the first time in thirteen years.
