MercedesBenz launched the much anticipated EQG in India yesterday at a whopping price tag of Rs 3 crore (exshowroom). The G 580 or commonly referred to as the fullyelectric GWagon boasts of many unique features that aren’t common even in the luxury car market. Here’s a look at the top 5 features which make the batterypowered GWagon one of its kind. The allelectric GClass gets a 116 kWh (usable) battery pack which sends to a quadmotor setup— one motor powering each wheel. The total output from this powertrain is a mammoth 580 bhp and 1,164 Nm of torque. The quadmotor setup enables precise power delivery to each wheel and reduces turning radius. Moreover, the EQG is the first batterypowered offroading vehicle with a lowrange thanks to torque vectoring which simulates the functionality of a locking differential, sending torque to each wheel depending on the traction available. This is accompanied by two terrain modes: Trail and Rock.Mercedes is offering a 360degree turn function commonly referred to as tank turn called GTurn. The G580 can rotate on the spot by moving the wheels on the left and right sides of the car in opposite directions. The German marque has a builtin safety feature which allows the GWagon electric to make only two such flips at a time.Merc calls its GSteering, the allwheel steering eliminates the need to do three to fivepoint turns on a tricky offroad track. This feature comes in handy while offroading in a heavy vehicle with a long wheelbase. With help of torque vectoring and the quadmotor setup, the G580 can reduce its turning radius by controlling the torque output at each wheel based on the position of the inside rear wheel. Basically, it can even lock the inner rear wheel and pivot around it.While the EQG has been designed to give the same feel as the fossilfueled AMG G63, it misses out on the lovely roar from the V8 that the latter has to offer. To compensate for it, Mercedes has given the allelectric GClass the GRoar feature where speakers mimic the family’s combustion engine sounds. The volume and intensity of the sounds align with the driving mode. Therefore, in Comfort Mode the sound is restrained whereas in Sport Mode, the speakers produce the exact same symphony as the AMG V8.The offroading capabilities of the EQG 580 is simply unmatchable for any other electric vehicle. Approach angle of 32 degrees, breakover angle of 20.3 degrees, departure angle of 30.7 degrees, and a ground clearance of 250mm, highlight its superior offroad credentials. This is accompanied by a massive water wading capacity of 850mm.
