Anand Nahar and Amrit Nahar exemplify how a simple passion can be transformed into a thriving business. The Nahar brothers driven by their love for cooking built a Rs 100-crore brand named ZORKO an inspiring journey that began with just Rs 50000 and a small restaurant during the pandemic.
Engineers Turned Entrepreneurs
Both brothers come from an engineering background. Anand holds a B.Tech in Automobile Engineering while Amrit completed his B.E. in Environmental Engineering. Before venturing into the food industry Anand worked as a freelance business development executive in the stock market after graduating in 2016. Amrit later joined him in the same field.
Finding Passion During Pandemic
The turning point came during the first wave of COVID-19 in 2020. Confined to their home like millions of others the Nahar brothers discovered their love for cooking. They began experimenting with new recipes and their creations garnered positive feedback when shared on social media.
Anand recalls how this period made them realize that cooking was not only enjoyable but also cost-effective. While dining out often required substantial expenses cooking at home offered high-quality meals at a fraction of the cost. This realization gave birth to the idea of launching a café that served quality food at affordable prices.
The Beginning of ZORKO
Motivated by their newfound passion the brothers opened their first ZORKO outlet in Surat. The restaurant offered an extensive menu including hot coffee jumbo burgers mac and cheese burst pizzas momo cheese bite pizzas and milkshakes. Their innovative approach to marketing leveraging social media played a crucial role in their early success.
Customers were encouraged to tag the restaurant on social media earning them a 20% discount on their next order. The strategy worked wonders and within the first month the outlet generated a revenue of ₹3 lakh.
Hobby Turn Into A Dream
The story of ZORKO started in 2021 when Anand and Amrit Nahar belonging to a middle-class family from Surat decided to invest in a 550-square-foot restaurant that was shutting down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With an initial investment of Rs 50000 they entered the food industry with a vision of delivering high-quality meals at affordable prices.
Their business operates on a franchise model starting with one restaurant in Surat and expanding to over 250 franchise outlets in 42 cities across India today.
ZORKO Today: A Rs 100-Crore Brand
Fast forward to today ZORKO has grown into a Rs 100-crore brand with over 250 outlets across 42 cities in India. The business employs more than 400 people providing livelihood and fostering entrepreneurship through its franchise model.
Remarkably the Nahar brothers achieved this milestone without external funding. What started as a modest idea fueled by a love for cooking is now a thriving enterprise proving that a simple passion when combined with vision and determination can create extraordinary success.
