The Los Angeles wildfires have not only caused much devastation but also displaced many people across Los Angeles County and nearby areas. And now, news is that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have opened their Montecito home for their friends and loved ones who have been forced to evacuate due to the increasing wildfires.
For the unversed, Prince Harry and Meghan officially stepped down from their roles as senior members of the UK royal family in 2020, and the couple moved to the US. They have been living in their $29 million Montecito home in California with their two children-- Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet-- for roughly five years now.
As per reports, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan's home is roughly 145km north of the area affected by the LA wildfires and it is a "high risk area". And despite having potential evacuation warnings for their Montecito home, the royal couple are providing shelter to those in need. The LA wildfires began on January 7, 2025, and it quickly spread to nearby areas. Roughly 100,000 LA residents have been forced to evacuate due to the wildfires.
Apart from helping their loved ones in such an emergency, Prince Harry and Meghan are also helping people through their Archewell Foundation . They are working along with World Central Kitchen by Chef José Andrés to provide help to those in need in such a crisis. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also donated essential supplies to those affected by the LA wildfires.
Urging people to support those affected by the LA wildfires, Harry and Meghan issues a statement on their official website. "In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life. A state of emergency has been issued," their statement read on Sussex.com. The statement further lists some organisations and their numbers that are supporting people who are affected by the fire.
Harry and Meghan also urge people to help those affected by the wildfires by providing shelter or donating stuff in such a crisis. "If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you can offer them a haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbours to see if they need help evacuating... Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need," the statement further reads.
