Instant messaging app WhatsApp has become an important part of our lives. Whether it is family or office work, it has become an easy means of messaging everywhere. Now you can not only send messages but also send money through it. Actually, WhatsApp has been a big relief in India. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has removed the UPI user onboarding limit for WhatsApp with immediate effect.

With this decision of NPCI, WhatsApp can now provide UPI services to its entire user base in India. In simple language, now all WhatsApp users can use its UPI service WhatsApp Pay. Earlier, NPCI had allowed WhatsApp Pay to increase its UPI user base in a phased manner.

NPCI, which operates the UPI framework in India, had initially imposed user onboarding limits on payment services like WhatsApp Pay to ensure a gradual and phased rollout. Its main purpose was to monitor scalability, performance, and security concerns in the sensitive payment ecosystem.

When WhatsApp Pay was launched, it was allowed to onboard only a small percentage of UPI users. Gradually, NPCI increased the limit. In November 2022, the limit for WhatsApp Pay was increased to 100 million users. Sources told Moneycontrol that completely removing the onboarding limit is an important milestone. WhatsApp has more than 500 million (50 crore) users in India.
