Years after the release of the 2018 film Hebbuli, its impact on fashion endures, particularly in North Karnataka, where the “Hebbuli haircut” — inspired by Sudeep ’s on-screen appearance — remains a source of contention between students and school authorities. So much so that, even as recently as 2023, teachers were reportedly still writing letters to salons asking them not to give students the style, which violates school conduct rules. The trend has now inspired debutant director Bheemrao ’s film, Hebbuli Cut . “The film humorously narrates the story of a teenager who sets out to get the said haircut to impress his crush,” Bheemrao shares. “The film also explores the unique saloon culture of Raichur district, a subject rarely seen in mainstream cinema. We’ve incorporated the region’s dialect as well. Despite these elements, Hebbuli Cut is a commercial film with songs and comedy. I believe the final moments will leave audiences speechless, and they’ll be talking about it long after they leave the theater. It’s vital that we encourage new filmmakers, and I’m thrilled to see new-gen actors like Dhananjaya and Sathish Ninasam stepping up. Sathish’s backing has been invaluable. In today’s content-driven landscape, I’m eager to offer audiences a truly unique and unseen cinematic experience,” Bheemrao says.
