I really like one Tottenham player - but we've got a hidden advantage they won't enjoy

While Sunday's FA Cup third round trip to Tamworth may not have much significance to Tottenham Hotspur compared to other recent fixtures, it's huge for the non-league side.

as the Lambs prepare to face one of the giants of English football. The Staffordshire-based outfit, who play in the National League - the fifth-tier, last reached this stage of the world's oldest cup competition back in 2012 when they lost 2-0 to Everton.

However, Tamworth have never played against any of England's traditional Big Six in a competitive fixture. That will change this weekend as - a fixture that has got the town and the club buzzing.

Tamworth midfielder Tom Tonks, who infamously created the winner over Huddersfield in the first round with his gigantic long-throw, is relishing the prospect of going up against Ange Postecoglou's this weekend.

When asked about who he is looking forward to facing, Tonks told football.london: "Obviously you've got [Cristian] Romero who is a World Cup winner, so that would be nice if he is on the pitch, I know he is currently injured.

"You've got some England internationals like James Maddison and players like that. I really like [Dejan] Kulusevski, it just depends what kind of squad Spurs bring, we're not sure as with the 4G surface some of these professionals might not like playing on it. I know they're under a little bit of pressure at the minute as they're not doing too well, so hopefully we can squeeze the screw on them."

Although Tonks' preferred position is in central midfield, he has often been used at right-back when called upon. If manager Andy Peaks decides to use Tonks on the right side of defence, he could come up against Son Heung-min - a player in which the former Stourbridge and Halesowen man has described as "very quick".

"It sounds like he is very quick to be honest," Tonks said of Son. "If I get asked to do a job I get asked to do a job.

"Predominately I have been playing centre midfield and there is some good players there like [Pape Matar] Sarr, [Yves] Bissouma and Maddison, so we'll see. I think whoever plays it will be tough, they’re going to be a little bit sharper than us I imagine."

Tamworth sit 16th in the National League right now - 95 places behind Spurs in the English football pyramid. The Lambs, who beat Macclesfield, Huddersfield and Burton to progress to the third round, are aware that beating Tottenham is a longshot but Tonks fancies their chances of causing an upset.

“The odds are firmly against us but we fancy ourselves against anybody at home," Tonks added. "I know it's a long shot and stuff, but how our ground is with the dugout pretty much next to the fans, the changing rooms are not what Spurs are going to be used to. It’s an artificial pitch; something they are not going to be used to again.

"Huddersfield tried to train on it prior to the game against us and they came unstuck so we’re giving ourselves a chance. Not many people will but we’ve got different ways of winning games of football, we can mix it up, and we’re just looking forward to it. We know the odds are firmly against us but our home form is decent this year and we’re giving ourselves a chance."
