Johannesburg [South Africa], January 12: In a rain-affected SA20 match against MI Cape Town at the Wanderers on Saturday, the Johannesburg Super Kings won by six runs using the Duckworth Lewis & Stern (DLS) system.

The game was cut short at many points because thundershowers were common throughout the day in the Highveld. The original target of 141 was changed to 136 after a protracted pause during the dinner break, reducing JSK’s chase to 19 overs.

After 11.3 overs, with the Super Kings on 82/3 and six runs ahead on DLS, the players were once again compelled to leave the field.

The Super Kings were able to secure the four match points because the players were unable to return to the field due to a continuous rain.

The JSK hitters at the crease were Wihan Lubbe (1 not out) and Leus du Plooy, who was undefeated at 24.

Aware of the rain, JSK captain Faf du Plessis had amassed a respectable 30 off 23 balls, including four boundaries and a six, before being removed by Dewald Brevis’s captivating catch on the cover boundary. Brevis tipped the ball back infield before diving full length back in field to finish the dismissal.

After missing the season opening in Gqeberha a few days before, Proteas star Kagiso Rabada scored 2/10 for MI Cape Town in his debut game of the third season.

MI All-rounder George Linde (48 not out, 35 balls, five fours, and two sixes) was at the heart of Cape Town’s comeback after being cut to 30/4. The visitors’ innings had been a stop-start affair. Dewald Brevis initially supported the all-rounder as they combined for 43 off 26 balls for the fifth wicket.

Delano Potgieter was forced to the crease after two more setbacks, however, with Brevis (14) and Azmatullah Omarzai (1) falling quickly after one other.

Potgieter continued his impressive run with another quick 44 not out off only 22 balls (four boundaries and three sixes), after his Player of the Match effort in the tournament opening a few days before.

It played a significant role in MI Cape Town’s unbroken 65-run partnership off 39 balls with Linde, which helped them reach 140/6.
