According to Olympics.com, the match will be played on Sunday at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Barcelona defeated Athletic Bilbao 2-0 in Wednesday’s first semi-final to guarantee their place in the championship game. In order to set up the highly anticipated matchup, Real Madrid followed suit on Thursday, thumping Mallorca 3-0 in a commanding display.

The Spanish football season begins with the Supercopa de Espana, an annual tournament run by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Four teams compete in a semi-final and final configuration as part of the tournament’s current framework. The Copa del Rey winners, La Liga champions, and runners-up from both championships are among the participants (as long as they are not the same clubs).

Barcelona qualified as La Liga runners-up, while Real Madrid, the current La Liga winners, joined the competition this year. Athletic Bilbao secured their spot by defeating Mallorca in the Copa del Rey final the previous year.

The Supercopa, one of Spain’s most prominent football competitions, gives teams the opportunity to win the first trophy of the season. Each of the two finalists has a lengthy history in the tournament. With 14 Supercopa trophies, Barcelona is the most successful team, just ahead of Real Madrid, who have won 13. Real Madrid won the championship with a resounding 4-1 victory last year, while Barcelona defeated their enduring rivals 3-1 the year before.

With 43 points after 19 games this season, Real Madrid is in first place in La Liga, while Barcelona is in third place with 38 points from the same amount of games. This El Clasico is sure to be another exciting chapter in one of football’s most storied rivalries, with bragging rights and a trophy up for grabs.
