Imagine the makers of a film releasing its trailer which creates quite a stir among audiences. However when the movie finally hits the big screens the Day 1 box office collection indicates that the film is destined to flop. Some might assume that the movie lacked big names renowned actors or a substantial budget. But what if we told you that despite having all the right ingredients—a good budget and legit famous Bollywood actors—the film still turned out to be a massive failure at the box office? Surprising right? This is exactly what happened with Arjun Kapoors film The Lady Killer. The Lady Killer Falls Short Despite Its Genre Appeal Now The Lady Killer falls under the suspense thriller genre a category usually loved by audiences. However in this film’s case the story took a completely different turn. As reports claim the movie managed to sell only 293 tickets at the box office. This figure alone highlights the significant loss suffered by the makers. Delays in Release of The Lady Killer Directed by Ajay Bahl the movie featured Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles. Made on a budget of Rs 45 crore the film faced massive delays throughout 2023. Eventually the movie was released on the big screens albeit in a very hasty manner. Why The Lady Killer Was Released Incomplete Surprisingly the film was released in an incomplete state. Reports suggest that the climax wasn’t fully shot before its theatrical release which many critics believe was a major reason for the film’s dismal performance. Another significant factor contributing to the film’s failure was its release in only a dozen theatres. As a result The Lady Killer managed to sell just 293 tickets on its opening day collecting a mere Rs 38000 marking one of the lowest openings in film history. Over its brief theatrical run the movies total box office earnings remained under Rs 1 lakh. The Lady Killer’s OTT Release Drama According to media reports The Lady Killer had a contractual obligation for its OTT release. The contract stipulated that the movie had to release in theatres at least six weeks before its scheduled OTT debut in December-end. By October the film was still incomplete. However the makers believed that releasing an unfinished film held more value than completely missing out on the OTT window. Consequently they opted for a limited theatrical release. Despite this the movie did not secure a place on any OTT platforms. However it is available for viewers to watch on YouTube.
