IPL 2025 to start on…, BCCI vice-president makes BIG announcement

New Delhi: On Sunday BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed that the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin on March 23. They were elected without any opposition as they were the only individuals to submit nominations for the positions left vacant by Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar. A two-day grand auction took place ahead of the 18th season of the T20 league. Rishabh Pant set a record as the most expensive player ever in IPL auction history when Lucknow Super Giants secured him for an eye-watering Rs 27 crore. Shreyas Iyer who captained Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL championship the previous year was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore making him the second most expensive player in the leagues history. Venkatesh Iyer was re-acquired by KKR for Rs 23.75 crore making him the priciest allrounder in IPL history. Shukla also mentioned that a discussion regarding the selection of the Indian team for next months Champions Trophy will take place on January 18th or 19th. According to reports the cutoff date for submitting provisional squads to the ICC is January 12. To date only three teams—England New Zealand and Bangladesh—have revealed their squads for the tournament.
