Delhi Chief Minister and AAP's candidate from Kalkaji seat, Atishi, on Tuesday responded to a police case filed against her for allegedly violating the election Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
Speaking to media after filing her nomination, she said, "The whole country saw how Parvesh Verma was distributing Rs 1,100... Later, Parvesh Verma himself tweeted that he was holding a health camp and distributing specs. After that, he distributed bedsheets with his name on them. But the Election Commission doesn't see any MCC violation in this."
"The question arises - who is the Police with? Is there pressure on EC officials? We hope the commitment of a free and fair election given by EC will be implemented on the ground," she added.
Earlier today, it was reported that an FIR has been registered against Atishi under Section 223(a) of BNS for violation of the Model Code of Conduct over the use of a government vehicle for political purposes.
Shortly after the case was filed, former Delhi chief minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal hit out at the poll body, saying his party is fighting against the "rotten system" which has to be changed.
"Their leaders openly distribute money, sarees, blankets, gold chains etc., get fake votes made, yet not even an FIR is registered. But an FIR is immediately registered against Chief Minister Atishi ji," Kejriwal said.
"Aam Aadmi Party is fighting against the entire system. This rotten system has to be changed and cleaned together with the people. Both BJP and Congress are part of the same rotten system," the former Delhi CM added.
Chief Minister Atishi filed her nomination for the upcoming Delhi assembly polls from Kalkaji constituency on Tuesday at the district magistrate's (DM) office in Lajpat Nagar.
Atishi was supposed to file her papers on Monday; however, there was a delay due to the roadshow, and she could not make it to the DM's office before the deadline.
Atishi is contesting against BJP's Ramesh Singh Bidhuri and Congress' Alka Lamba.
