An urgent recall has been issued for packets of sausage rolls over fears they could trigger serious food .
Cheese and onion rolls were mistakenly packaged as Farmfoods 50 Cocktail Sausage Rolls.
They contain cheese which was not mentioned on the label, meaning they could pose a health risk to people who are allergic or have an intolerance to milk.
Allergies to cow's milk are thought to affect around 2-3% of children, according to Allergy UK. It is the most common cause of food allergy in the paediatric population in the developed world.
A 2011 study found cow's milk allergies comprise 10 to 19% of food-induced anaphylaxis cases seen in both child and mixed-age populations.
The recall issued by David Wood Baking Ltd involved 700g packages of Farmfoods 50 Cocktail Sausage Rolls with the batch code L4295.
The affected products have a best before date of October 2025.
Customers who have bought the product are advices to return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
A notice issued by the Food Standards Agency said: "David Wood Baking Ltd is recalling Farmfoods 50 Cocktail Sausage Rolls because the pack contains cheese and onion rolls which contain milk, which is not mentioned on the label.
"This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents."
Symptoms of a milk allergy can include wheezing, vomiting, hives and digestive problems. In severe cases, it can cause life-threatening anaphylaxis.
Some people are also allergic to milk from sheep, goats, buffalo and other mammals. Most children outgrow milk allergy but those who don't may need to continue to avoid milk products.
