Makar Sankranti Sesame Recipes : The tradition of eating sesame seeds on Makar Sankranti is linked to ancient Indian culture. According to religious beliefs, Makar Sankranti is the day of Sun's entry into Capricorn. It is celebrated as “the Sun enters Uttarayan”, which is an auspicious time according to Indian astrology. At this time, the days become longer and the nights become shorter as the Sun enters Uttarayan, which is seen as a positive change. Sesame seeds and jaggery are consumed considering this change as auspicious.

Material:
Sesame seeds – 1 cup
Moong dal – 1/2 cup
Rice – 1/2 cup
Ghee – 2 spoons
Turmeric – 1/2 teaspoon
Ginger – 1 inch piece (grated)
salt to taste
Water – 3 cups
Method:
Toast the sesame seeds well.
Heat ghee in a pan, add moong dal and rice and fry.
Now add turmeric, ginger, salt and add 3 cups of water.
Let the mixture cook, when the rice and lentils are completely cooked, add sesame seeds and mix well.
Til Khichdi is ready, serve it hot.
Material:
Sesame seeds – 1 cup
Gram flour – 1/2 cup
Green chilli – 2 (finely chopped)
Turmeric – 1/4 teaspoon
Coriander powder – 1/2 teaspoon
salt to taste
Water – 1/4 cup
Oil – for frying
Method:
Toast the sesame seeds well.
Prepare a solution by adding gram flour, green chilli, turmeric, coriander powder, salt and some water in a vessel.
Now add sesame seeds to it and mix well.
Heat oil in a pan and make small pakodas and fry them.
Til Pakori is ready. Serve it with green chutney or curd.
Material:
Sesame seeds – 1 cup
Dark chocolate – 100 grams
Ghee – 1 teaspoon
Dry fruits – 2-3 spoons (chopped)
Method:
Toast the sesame seeds well.
Put dark chocolate and ghee in a vessel and melt it.
Now add sesame seeds and dry fruits and mix well.
Take out the mixture in a tray and freeze it.
Let it cool, then cut into small pieces. Your sesame chocolate is ready!

Sesame seeds – 1 cup
Jaggery – 1/2 cup
Water – 1/4 cup
Ghee – 1 teaspoon
Method:
Roast sesame seeds and cut jaggery into small pieces.
Heat ghee in a pan, then add jaggery and water and melt it.
When the jaggery melts completely, add sesame seeds to it and mix well.
Let the mixture cook for 5 minutes, then serve. This delicious dessert is ready!

Sesame seeds – 1/2 cup
Garlic – 4-5 cloves
Green chilli – 2
Lemon juice – 1 teaspoon
salt to taste
Method:
Toast the sesame seeds well.
Grind green chilli and garlic and mix it with sesame seeds.
Then prepare chutney by adding lemon juice and salt to it.
This chutney tastes very tasty with paratha or khichdi.

Sesame seeds – 1/2 cup
Potato – 2 (boiled)
Green chilli – 2
Ginger – 1 inch
Turmeric – 1/4 teaspoon
salt to taste
Ghee – 1 teaspoon
Method:
Roast the sesame seeds and grind them in a mixer.
Heat ghee in a pan, add ginger and green chillies and fry.
Now add boiled potatoes, turmeric, salt and sesame powder and mix well.
Cook for 5-7 minutes, then serve hot.

Dry coconut – 1/2 cup (grated)
Jaggery – 1/2 cup
Ghee – 2 spoons
Nuts – 1/4 cup (chopped)
Method:
Toast the sesame seeds well.
Heat ghee in a pan, then add jaggery and let it melt.
Now add sesame seeds, coconut and dry fruits and mix well.
Take out this mixture in a plate and let it cool, then cut it into small pieces and serve.
