Author Neil Gaiman denies sexual assault allegations made by 8 women; says "I've now reached the point where ..."
Author Neil Gaiman famous for his work in ‘Sandman,’ ‘Good Omens’ and more, is no stranger to public attention. Currently, as well, the best-selling author Neil Gaiman is in the news but unfortunately not for the right reasons. In a recently released detailed report shared by various media outlets, it has been revealed that Neil is being accused on the charges of sexual assault not by one or two but by 8 women. These detailed accounts talk about him allegedly sexually harassing the baby sitter and various other disturbing details speak about how the author reportedly enjoys being called the ‘master’ during his sexual encounters.
Reacting to the allegations, Neil has straight away denied all the allegations. He admitted to never ever engaging in any non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Taking to his blogpost on Tuesday, he wrote “I’ve stayed quiet until now, both out of respect for the people who were sharing their stories and out of a desire not to draw even more attention to a lot of misinformation."
Expressing his ‘horror and dismay,’ the ‘Sadman’ writer continued, “I’ve always tried to be a private person, and felt increasingly that social media was the wrong place to talk about important personal matters. I’ve now reached the point where I feel that I should say something. As I read through this latest collection of accounts, there are moments I half-recognise and moments I don’t, descriptions of things that happened sitting beside things that emphatically did not happen. I’m far from a perfect person, but I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever.".
He mentioned that as he reads the old test messages from the time of the alleged incidents and feels they were nothing but “two people enjoying entirely consensual sexual relationships”. At the same time, he admits, he “could have and should have done so much better," adding he was “not as thoughtful as I could or should have been."
“I was obviously careless with people’s hearts and feelings, and that’s something that I really, deeply regret. It was selfish of me. I was caught up in my own story and I ignored other people’s. I’ve spent some months now taking a long, hard look at who I have been and how I have made people feel. Like most of us, I’m learning, and I’m trying to do the work needed, and I know that that’s not an overnight process,” read his post.
The author said he understood that not everyone would believe him and added he would go to any lengths to deserve their trust, which includes his readers. He claimed some of the allegations “simply never happened” while others had been “distorted” to “bear no relationship to reality," but said he would “take responsibility for any missteps I made."
Earlier regarding the accusations made against Neil Gaiman’s involvement in BDMS practices in bed, his representatives told Tortoise Media that “sexual degradation, bondage, domination, sadism, and masochism may not be to everyone’s taste, but between consenting adults, BDSM is lawful”.
Since the allegations first surfaced, reports suggest that several of his film and TV adaptations have been affected, including season three of ‘Good Omens’ and a film of The Graveyard Book.
