halted to deliver some "breaking news".

The presenter, 54, hosted the programme alongside for the third time this week, with the pair sharing the latest headlines of the day with viewers.

During the programme, Susanna announced that figures released in the last few minutes revealed that in December, down from 2.6% in November.

The latest figures, released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), come after pressure has increased on the public finances in recent days due to government borrowing costs soaring.

Although the rate has fallen, it remains above the Bank of England's target.

After announcing the breaking news, Susanna and Ed were joined by correspondent Jonathan Swain, who was live from Staffordshire.

Reporting from a butcher's, Jonathan shared how the shop has a variety of products, not just a range of fresh meat, because this is what businesses have to do to cover their costs.

"Food prices have contributed to high inflation over the last few years," the star said. "Wholesale meat prices have gone up by 35 per cent for example."

Jonathan then brought out Martin, the owner of the butchers, who revealed he can't hire more staff because of the recent changes to Rachel Reeves' budget.

The Chancellor set out her plans in October, with many claiming it was "a disaster of a Budget for small businesses".

Many employers will have to make a bigger contribution to National Insurance (NI), covering more of the people they employ and the national living wage will also increase.

Businesses said that this makes it less likely for people to get a job or a pay rise because of the extra financial burden employers face.

Martin told viewers: "Putting the wage up, it's a strange one because as a business you've got to look at that in two ways. You either put the price of the product up so everyone pays more, so no one is better off anyway. Or you employ less staff."

Jonathan added: "Inflation and the recent changes to the budget have a big impact on small businesses like this. They are feeling the pinch and we are too, in our pockets. Prices are still going up."
