A horror movie widely considered one of the scariest films ever made is now available on in the US. This critically acclaimed debut feature, which premiered in 2018 and sent shockwaves through its audiences, is now available to revisit or discover for the first time.

A family is driven into chaos and madness after a tragic loss, unearthing dark secrets about their ancestry in this heart-stopping supernatural tale. The film in question is, without a doubt, Ari Aster's Hereditary - from the same visionary director behind the hit Midsommar.

If you're in the US, you can now stream it on Netflix, making it the perfect companion to while away the dark winter nights with a good fright.

However, proceed with caution: Hereditary has the potential to leave a lasting mark with its unrelenting sense of foreboding and an array of terrifying scares.

Fans who want to watch in the UK can stream Hereditary on Amazon Prime Video.

A Reddit user revealed: "Hereditary is the scariest film I've ever seen, and it's not even close..." They lavished praise on the film, adding: "Absolutely brilliant film! It gradually builds an absolute sense of dread and absolutely crescendos over the last 25 minutes!" Raving about the film's artistic merits, they also pointed out that "Not only is the cinematography brilliant but the story is chilling, ambitious and takes unexpected turns.

"It isn't a typical horror film but it has its fair share of jump scares and there are several scenes that will genuinely stay with me for a long time", reports .

Touching on the lasting impact of the movie, one individual responded: "Only film to make me scared of the dark and looking at my ceiling for months. Phenomenal film though."

And another concurred: "I find most horror films silly and while some are enjoyable, I'm never really engaged. Hereditary haunted me for days. Still does years after, to some extent."

Film critic David Ehrlich offered a stark warning on Letterboxd about the lead actress's performance: "Toni Collette does *at least* three different things in this movie that might f*** you up forever.

"Imagine a supernatural creep-fest like THE CONJURING, but told with the patience of THE WITCH, the emotional depth of THE BABADOOK, and the kind of scares that that James Wan would kill for."

Another reviewer shared their immediate post-film experience: "It's been almost an hour since I walked out of my Hereditary screening, and I find myself baffled. Still shaking and laughing, trying to have a normal conversation with my mom.

"I have fallen in love with movies over and over again, but horror movies never seem to captivate me as much as others do. But Hereditary is brand new. Hereditary busted through our doors, confident and blazing.

"Hereditary doesn't let the genre define what it can be. Hereditary takes your head and slams it into the goddamn wall, and will not apologize."

Are you ready to confront the terrors of Hereditary this week?

Hereditary is streaming on Netflix in the US and Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
