Manchester United allegedly make contract with Barcelona to discuss a possible deal for centra defender Andreas Christensen.

Manchester United have reportedly been in touch with Barcelona to discuss a possible deal for Andreas Christensen.

The Denmark international has been on the sidelines since the first matchday of the 2024-25 campaign with an Achilles injury, but he is close to making a return to action, with the centre-back recently back in full training.

Christensen made the move to Barcelona from Chelsea on a free transfer in July 2022, and he has represented the Catalan giants on 75 occasions, scoring four goals and registering three assists in the process.

The 28-year-old only has 18 months left to run on his contract, and there has recently been speculation surrounding his future, with a number of clubs believed to be interested in his signature.

Barcelona are said to be close to signing Ronald Araujo to a new contractwhile Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez are also ahead of Christensen in the pecking order when it comes to the spots in the middle of the defence.

Christensen was used as a central midfielder on occasions last term, but that is also now a well-stocked area, with Marc Casado proving to be a key player in the holding midfield role this term.

Man United ‘contract Barcelona to discuss Christensen

According to SportMan United have been in contact with Barcelona in recent weeks to discuss the possibility of making the move to Old Trafford, but the Red Devils are yet to present a formal offer.

Araujo’s decision to stay is expected to have a direct impact on Christensen’s future, while Eric Garcia is also likely to move on, with the Spaniard another defender being linked with an exit.

Christensen has huge experience when it comes to English football, having turned out for Chelsea between 2014 and 2022, representing the Blues on 161 occasions in all competitions.

The Dane made 93 appearances in the Premier League, and it is not difficult to understand why Man United would be interested in him when considering his experience and the fact that he will be available for a cut-price fee.

Will any Man United centre-backs leave Old Trafford this summer?

Harry Maguire has been vital for Man United head coach Reuben Amorim in recent weeks, and the experienced centre-back has had a 12-month contract extension activated, with his current deal now due to run until June 2026.

Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans are both out of contract this summer and expected to leave, with the duo not in Amorim’s long-term plans, although the latter could potentially be offered a coaching role.

Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro are all viewed as vital players for Man United, with the trio almost certain to stay this summer, but at least one player is expected to arrive in that area of the field this summer due to the expected exits of Lindelof and Evans.
