Omar Marmoush’s future is still up in the air as Frankfurt’s stadium became a goodbye party area for the 25-year-old Egyptian striker. With rumors of a €70 million offer from Manchester City, Marmoush has been the focus of transfer rumors.

Manchester City, the struggling English champions, made an official approach on Tuesday night, and behind-the-scenes talks are reportedly still going on. Markus Krosche, the sports director of Eintracht Frankfurt, is reportedly remaining calm. The team is in a good negotiating position since the 2022 UEFA Europa League winners are allegedly holding out for at least €80 million.

Marmoush is still producing on the field, even if it is probable that he will leave before the German winter transfer window ends on February 3. According to Xinhua, his outstanding performances—which included a goal in Frankfurt’s most recent 4-1 win against Freiburg—have helped the squad reach 33 points halfway through the season. With 15 goals and 10 assists in 17 Bundesliga games, Marmoush has established himself as one of the most sought-after attackers in Europe.

Given the tremendous opportunity it offers, Eintracht supporters seem to be accepting of his leaving and supportive of his decision. Lothar Matthaus, Michael Ballack, Mario Gotze, and Red Bull’s “Head of Global Soccer,” Jurgen Klopp, are among the German commentators and former players who have commended Marmoush and urged him to take on his next task.

Particularly, Klopp was compared to Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, while Matthaus and Ballack said Marmoush would flourish at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola. Marmoush is anticipated to play in Frankfurt’s next game versus struggling Dortmund this Friday, notwithstanding the rumors. “He is under contract with us, so why shouldn’t he play?” Krosche noted as speculations spread that this may be Marmoush’s final appearance for the club.

Frankfurt is allegedly looking at substitutes in the meanwhile. Jonathan Burkardt of Mainz, Mostafa Mohamed of FC Nantes, and Arnaud Kalimuendo of Stade Rennes are all potential targets. Hugo Ekitike, a recent addition, is also showing promise.

Despite reports that an agreement has been reached between Marmoush and Manchester City, both teams must complete the move. If the move fails, it would be unexpected, according to sources. Frankfurt is still feeling well for the time being. Even as they are ready to live without their star striker, the squad is enjoying its excellent form and has secured third place in the league rankings thanks to Marmoush’s outstanding performances.
