A man was detained by the Patna Police on Wednesday on suspicion of threatening Santosh Kumar Singh, the Labour Minister of Bihar, and requesting Rs 30 lakh in extortion.
In the state’s political and administrative circles, the episode has caused a stir. The minister filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Kotwali police station in Patna on Tuesday after receiving the extortion threat earlier this week.
The culprit was arrested on Wednesday as a result of the police’s prompt action and investigation. Sanjay Yadav, an accused person from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested after the occurrence was verified by Sweety Sehrawat, the city superintendent of police (SP) (central).
“As soon as we received the minister’s complaint, we assembled a team under the direction of a DSP-rank officer. They located the culprit at his hometown village under the Phulpur police station in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, using technological monitoring. Sanjay Yadav was taken into custody and transported to Patna with the assistance of the Azamgarh police. A laborer named Sanjay Yadav had just resigned from his job at a ready-made clothing store in Mumbai and moved back to Azamgarh to construct a home. Due to financial limitations, he came up with a scheme to demand money from well-known people. Yadav threatened to extort Rs 30 lakh after obtaining Bihar Labour Minister Santosh Kumar Singh’s contact information via his Facebook profile, according to the SP.
The defendant acknowledged that mobster Lawrence Bishnoi, whose images and videos he had viewed online, had served as an inspiration. He created credibility and dread by using Bishnoi’s name,” Sehrawat remarked.
“The SIM card and cell phone that Yadav used to make the menacing call have been confiscated. To find out whether he attempted similar extortion on other people, the gadget will be submitted to a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). “His call details are being investigated,” she said.
In order to avoid similar tragedies, the police have made sure that judicial actions are going as quickly as possible and have increased protection for public authorities. According to Sehrawat, the accused was taken into judicial custody after being brought into court.
