Beat The Chasers returned to with a bang on Thursday night as five contestants went up against the chasers to win huge cash prizes.

Daniel, Beki, Ray, Sam and Danni came face to face with Darragh Ennis, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan, Shaun Wallace and Mark Labbett - and one of them won big.

Danni was the final contestant of the night and quickly proved her capability after the cash builder. Despite confessing to having never quizzed in her life, she took the top offer of £50,000 and went to battle with five of the chasers.

With a generous time offer, Danni began the round by flying through the questions. However, nerves appeared to get the better of her towards the end, and she stumbled over her answers.

With just five seconds remaining in the nail-biting battle, the chasers were poised to clinch the win when they were asked by host : "Which biblical king had sons called Daniel and Absalom?"

Anne, aka The Governess, pressed the buzzer and incorrectly guessed Solomon.

Bradley corrected her as the clock kept ticking, revealing that David was the answer.

With just three seconds left, Bradley asked the chasers: "What character grew between the pots in The Flowerpot Men," but as Jenny answered, "Little Weed", the timer ran out and Danni was declared the winner.

Danni was floored as it was confirmed that she had won £50,000 and jumped up and down in jubilation.

Bradley gave her a big high-five and took her on a victory lap of the studio. The chasers gave her a standing ovation and congratulated her on the win.

Elsewhere in the episode, Daniel walked away with £30,000 after defeating four of the chasers with a generous time offer of 40 seconds.

Sam was not so lucky as he failed to beat Darragh, Anne, Jenny and Mark for £25,000.

He was asked: "What Frederick Forsyth novel was the first to be published?" Sam passed, and the timer ran out when Bradley answered: "Day of the Jackal."

All six chasers looked surprised that Sam had failed to beat them. Jenny said: "We had to play out of our skin to stand any chance and I thought that you were going to walk away with that. That was so close."
