New Delhi: Indian cricket star Virat Kohli is reportedly set to join the Delhi team ahead of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group D match against Saurashtra scheduled to begin on January 23. While Kohli has not yet officially confirmed his participation a Cricbuzz report suggests it’s highly likely that he will link up with the Delhi squad in Rajkot and train with them even if he does not play in the match. Should he take the field it would mark his first Ranji Trophy appearance for Delhi since 2012. Meanwhile Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has already confirmed his availability for the match. The BCCI introduced a comprehensive 10-point policy aimed at fostering discipline and unity within the struggling national cricket team. Key measures include mandatory participation in domestic cricket restrictions on the presence of families and personal staff during tours and a ban on individual endorsements while series are ongoing. Failure to comply with these measures would result in sanctions such as reductions in the retainer fee from central contracts and a ban on participation in the lucrative Indian Premier League. These measures were introduced following the teams poor performance during the disastrous tour of Australia which came on the heels of a home series whitewash against New Zealand. The Board has granted a two-week window for families to accompany players during overseas tours while also enforcing restrictions on personal staff and commercial shoots. The Board policy states Any exceptions or deviations must receive prior approval from the Chairman of the Selection Committee and the Head Coach. Non-compliance may result in disciplinary action as determined by the BCCI. The policy further warns Additionally the BCCI reserves the right to take disciplinary action against a player which may include barring the player from participating in all BCCI-conducted tournaments including the Indian Premier League as well as deductions from the retainer amount or match fees under the BCCI Player contract.
