A dog-training expert has offered a simple command that can get any pup to return to your hand. Shannon, an expert trainer from Paw Forward Dog Training in Leicestershire, has shared a 10-minute tip to make life easier for pet parents.

Known as the "touch" command, the trainer took to TikTok to teach the world this easy skill that doesn't require braving the cold and wet weather and can be easily mastered at home.

All you need to start teaching the command is a smelly treat - in the video, the trainer uses a small cube of cheddar cheese - and a little bit of patience.

You'll want to place the treat between your fingers, hold it up to your four-legged friend, and as soon as they touch your palm, you release the treat and say "yes," repeating this several times until your pooch starts to naturally head for your palm.

The second step involves leaving your palm out, this time without a treat.

Now, whenever they touch your palm present them another treat out of a bag or your pocket, but importantly it has to be from your other hand. Again repeat this several times until your dog becomes comfortable with the action.

The trainer advises: "When you're absolutely sure they're going to touch their nose to your hand, that's when you can add your cue 'touch,'" and repeat the previous step with the new command.

By utilising positive reinforcement techniques, you demonstrate to your dog that your hands are safe, resulting in a positive reaction when they approach your palm, reports .

Ideally, with this reinforcement, your dog will eagerly return to you, giving you a "doggy high five" whenever the "touch" command is given.

The video has garnered a positive response, with one commenter expressing: "We love touch, a nice engagement game when out and about too! " Another added, "We did touch when mine was a pup! Great one if I need him to get close quickly."

The video has quickly gained popularity on social media, accumulating nearly 100,000 views in its first week.
