Don Bosco High School (Matunga) recently clinched the title at the prestigious Junior Aga Khan Knock-out Tournament for U-16 boys with a thrilling 4-2 shootout victory over Dr. Antonio Da Silva High School (Dadar).
Competing on their home ground in Matunga, the Bosco team dominated the first half with aggressive play but were unable to capitalise. The second half mirrored the first, as they let slip nearly six scoring opportunities.
In the shootout, Aarav Phanse, Parth Chintal, Arnav Khot, and Aaditya Rane converted their attempts for Don Bosco, while only Sarthak Jadhav and Priyanshu Vichare scored for Antonio Da Silva. Don Bosco goalkeeper Meet made two decisive saves, preventing Foaad Shaikh and Aamad Ghadge from scoring, securing the title for the hosts.
Ryan D’Souza from St. Stanislaus High School scored the winning goal against Children’s Academy to take third place.
St. Teresa’s Convent High School (Santacruz) won the U-16 KG Kalantri girls' hockey tournament.The U-16 KG Kalantri girls' Hockey final, held at the same venue, was another closely contested match. St. Teresa’s Convent High School (Santacruz) edged past Duruelo Convent High School (Bandra) 3-1 in a shootout after a goalless draw in regulation time.
In the final shootout, Yukti Dabho, Arya Kamble, and Trenail Chand scored for St. Teresa’s, while Angel Nadar was the sole scorer for Duruelo.
Third place went to Don Bosco High School, Borivali who beat Gokuldham High School in a shootout, with Reva Tole scoring the winning goal.
The tournament was organised under the recently established partnership between Dream Sports Foundation (DSF), the philanthropic arm of Dream Sports and the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA).
The collaboration, which has been formed to promote fitness, discipline, and sportsmanship among thousands of school students in Mumbai, will span across 20 sports with a focus on Hockey, Football, Cricket, Athletics, Table Tennis, and Badminton.
